BİTLİS — Law enforcement authorities in Bitlis’s Tatvan district have intensified local security measures, carrying out a large-scale "Peace and Security" operation involving roughly 100 police officers. The coordinated sweeps spanned multiple strategic locations across the district, utilizing both stationary checkpoints and mobile units to clamp down on illegal activities, apprehend fugitives, and ensure public safety.
The comprehensive operation, which brought together various branches of the local police force including specialized Special Operations officers, underscored a zero-tolerance approach toward criminal elements in the region. Authorities deployed three fixed control points and two mobile checkpoints strategically positioned to monitor traffic flow and pedestrian movement throughout Tatvan.

During the intensive sweeps, security forces conducted General Information Gathering (GBT) checks on approximately 500 individuals. Concurrently, traffic and patrol units inspected around 200 vehicles, examining documentation, vehicle compliance, and conducting thorough security screenings.
The targeted checks yielded immediate results. Several individuals who had been sought by judicial authorities for various offenses were successfully apprehended during the GBT screenings. Police initiated formal legal proceedings against the suspects in accordance with standard judicial protocols.

In addition to apprehending wanted individuals, the operation targeted public order and traffic safety violations. Traffic enforcement teams meticulously inspected vehicles for technical deficiencies, missing documentation, and infractions against traffic regulations. Drivers found in violation of road safety and legal standards faced administrative fines and necessary penalties.
The security dragnet also extended to local commercial establishments. During inspections of businesses operating within the district, authorities uncovered a regulatory violation at one specific venue. Legal action was initiated against the business establishment after officers determined that smoking was permitted within enclosed indoor areas, in direct violation of public health and safety regulations governing smoke-free spaces.

Local authorities emphasized that comprehensive security and public order operations of this nature will continue across Tatvan and the broader Bitlis province. The regular execution of such targeted sweeps aims to maintain community peace, deter criminal behavior, and ensure that both residents and visitors can navigate the district in a secure environment.
