KASTAMONU — In an unusual and dramatic incident reported from the Tosya district of Kastamonu, a parked heavy-duty transport vehicle loaded with straw experienced a sudden and unexplainable movement, ultimately careening off a roadway and plunging into a local stream. The striking sequence of events, which fortunately resulted in no reported injuries, caught local residents and authorities by surprise as emergency and recovery teams faced a lengthy operation to retrieve the massive vehicle and its trailer from the waterway.

The incident took place alongside a busy thoroughfare in the Tosya district, a region known for its agricultural activity and regular transport of farming goods. According to the details available, the heavy goods vehicle, bearing the license plate 37 AEK 167 and heavily laden with agricultural straw, had been parked securely by the side of the road. For reasons that remain under investigation and are not yet fully understood, the massive truck suddenly began to move forward on its own from its stationary position.

Without a driver behind the wheel to apply the brakes or steer, the vehicle rolled forward along the incline of the street, gathering momentum over a brief distance. Despite the relatively short stretch of road it covered before going off course, the weight and size of the cargo-laden transport ensured that it carried significant force. The truck continued its driverless journey until it reached the edge of the road, where standard roadside safety barriers failed to hold the heavy machine. The vehicle smashed through the protective metal guardrails and plummeted approximately three meters down into the stream bed below, coming to a rest amidst the water and mud.

The sudden plunge of the heavy vehicle into the waterway triggered a complex and prolonged recovery operation. Due to the substantial weight of the truck and the bulk of the straw cargo it was carrying, standard towing equipment was initially deemed insufficient. Local authorities, traffic control teams, and specialized recovery crews were dispatched to the scene to manage the situation, secure the area, and formulate a safe extraction plan that would minimize any environmental impact on the stream and prevent further damage to the vehicle.

The delicate salvage operation required heavy machinery, specifically specialized industrial cranes capable of lifting massive loads from difficult angles. For approximately five hours, recovery teams worked meticulously at the site, securing cables around the chassis of the truck and its detached trailer to lift them safely out of the stream bed. The complex maneuvering demanded precision and coordination among the operators, as the wet terrain and the precarious position of the wreckage posed ongoing challenges. After hours of continuous labor, both the main body of the TIR and its heavy-duty trailer were successfully hoisted out of the stream and placed back onto solid ground.

In the wake of the incident, further clarity regarding how the vehicle began to move on its own emerged from local surveillance footage. Security cameras installed in the vicinity captured the entire unexpected episode from the moment the parked truck inexplicably started rolling forward to its dramatic descent through the guardrails and into the water. This visual documentation has become a key element for authorities as they seek to determine the exact mechanical or circumstantial factors that caused the parked vehicle to dislodge and move independently.

Local officials and law enforcement continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident in Tosya, focusing on potential mechanical faults, brake system integrity, or external factors that might have contributed to the sudden movement of the heavy transport vehicle. While the material damage to the truck and the infrastructure, including the shattered guardrails, is significant, the community has expressed relief that the unexpected accident unfolded without causing any injuries to pedestrians, other motorists, or bystanders in the area.
