Istanbul authorities have initiated a comprehensive judicial and law enforcement investigation targeting individuals suspected of engaging in prostitution, as well as those operating as facilitators, organizers, and enforcers for illicit sex work across Turkey’s largest metropolis. The sweeping operation, which underscores the ongoing efforts of municipal and national security forces to combat organized vice and human exploitation, follows months of intelligence gathering and digital surveillance conducted by specialized units within the Istanbul Police Department.
According to official reports detailing the early stages of the probe, law enforcement personnel uncovered a network of addresses where illegal prostitution was routinely taking place. Investigators established that these locations were not merely isolated incidents of unlawful activity, but rather part of a structured, organized criminal enterprise. The masterminds behind the operation were systematically acting as intermediaries, encouraging participation, and providing physical venues—including commercial establishments and front businesses—to facilitate illegal sex work on a commercial scale.
Building upon the intelligence gathered during the preliminary phase of the investigation, the Istanbul Police Department’s Public Order Branch Directorate—known locally as the Asayiş Şube Müdürlüğü—coordinated a synchronized series of raids. Operating under warrants issued by the local judiciary, specialized tactical and investigative teams descended upon 20 distinct locations simultaneously. The targeted addresses encompassed a wide geographical spread across the European side of Istanbul, focusing heavily on commercial venues operating under the guise of legitimate enterprises, specifically including massage parlors and wellness centers.
The coordinated police operations spanned seven major districts of Istanbul: Bahçelievler, Beylikdüzü, Başakşehir, Avcılar, Küçükçekmece, Esenyurt, and Bağcılar. These densely populated districts, characterized by rapid urbanization and a high volume of commercial foot traffic, have frequently been utilized by illicit networks attempting to blend commercial vice into the daily hustle of local business districts. The simultaneous nature of the raids was designed to prevent suspects from communicating with one another, destroying digital evidence, or relocating victims and personnel before law enforcement could secure the premises.
During the execution of the raids across the twenty targeted addresses, law enforcement officers apprehended a significant number of individuals. In total, 31 persons were taken into custody during the initial sweep.
