Trade Minister Ömer Bolat has strongly refuted recent allegations claiming he withdrew a significant amount of money from an investment fund prior to a major financial probe to evade market fallout. The controversy, initially sparked by statements from Yeni Parti Deputy Ümit Özlale, quickly escalated onto national television and social media platforms, prompting a direct and detailed defense from the minister regarding his family’s assets and financial accounts.
The sequence of events began when Ümit Özlale targeted Minister Bolat with claims alleging that the minister had pulled 170 million Turkish Liras from a contested investment fund just before a wave of scrutiny began. According to these allegations, the move was a strategic maneuver designed to secure a favorable position and avoid financial losses ahead of an unfolding market and regulatory crisis. These assertions suggested that prominent political figures managed to exit high-risk positions prematurely while ordinary investors remained exposed.
Following these initial remarks, the controversy spilled over into mainstream media channels. During a live broadcast on Sözcü TV featuring journalists İsmail Saymaz and Murat Ağırel, the allegations surrounding the fund and the purported actions of government officials were brought up for public discussion.

During the broadcast, journalist İsmail Saymaz referenced the statements made by the Yeni Parti deputy, noting on air that the accusations appeared to point directly toward members of the cabinet. "Ümit Özlale mentions two ministers," Saymaz stated during the program. "It is understood that one of them is Trade Minister Ömer Bolat."
However, the discussion on television drew immediate reactions and subsequently led to a defensive clarification from Saymaz himself. Following the broadcast, Saymaz took to his official account on the social media platform X to address criticisms regarding the origin of the claims. By sharing a clip of the broadcast, the journalist sought to distance himself from being the primary source of the allegations.
"This claim does not belong to me. The source of the claim is not me," Saymaz stated in his social media post, clarifying his position. He maintained that he was merely discussing and repeating allegations that had already been brought to the agenda by other political actors before he spoke on the broadcast.
In the face of mounting public discussions and what he characterized as unfounded attacks, Trade Minister Ömer Bolat issued a categorical denial, labeling the claims as completely fabricated. Providing a transparent breakdown of his family’s financial footprint, Bolat firmly rejected the narrative that he had shifted massive sums of capital out of investment funds to skirt an approaching investigation.

According to the minister’s detailed explanation, his family’s actual savings—amounting to 37.8 million Turkish Liras—have been securely held in a SUKUK account since 2024. Bolat emphasized that neither prior to the fund investigation nor after its launch had this account been closed, nor had any speculative stock market purchases or sales been executed through it.
Addressing specific rumors circulating in the public domain—including sensationalized claims that a significant investment had doubled rapidly from 400 to 800—Minister Bolat dismissed the entire narrative succinctly, describing the allegation as "a colossal lie." By making his family’s asset allocations and account histories transparent, the minister sought to put an end to the ongoing speculation and counter what he termed a series of baseless and malicious smears directed at his integrity and official conduct.
